NEWS FOR END OF MAY 2009

Dear Friends,

"Would you like to engage in corruption? If not, then please don't send any money to Africa."

People 'sending money' from far away don't have to worry about the corruption. At least from their point of view they don't have to worry about it. They don't see it happening.

I personally still struggle with the area of (what the West calls) corruption. Should I 'become corrupt'? If not, then how can I become closely involved with African people? If so - then how can I look people in the eye back in the West? One problem is that the corrupt system keeps people alive! It provides their bread and butter. How can one condemn a system that feeds hungry people?

Donors promote corruption no end. Are they guilty? The government is not seeking to prosecute people because they put others into a position in which there is almost no choice but to be corrupt. What does God say about this? Pray for those serving the church to know how to respond to 'corrupt' practices.

Give thanks - that the road that was to pass within feet of my house has not yet been built. I am hoping that they have 'forgotten' it! Meanwhile another all-weather road now passes within a few hundred yards of my home, making movement even after rainstorms a lot easier!

Yala, Siaya and Kima schools are all open and running. Results so far are somewhat encouraging. Pray for board meetings for Yala and Kima that are due in the next few days.
