NEWS END OF OCTOBER 2009

Dear Friends,

Ups and downs in our extension-theological teaching programmes continue apace. It becomes harder to know what to say to Westerners, as I gradually learn more and more of how the Bible, myself, meetings, churches and faith in God are a part of a complex tribal maze of beliefs, inter-personal dynamics, fears, hopes, aspirations and mysteries. The parable of the sower (Mt. 13:1-9) talks of seeds falling on the path, on rocks, amongst thorns or on good ground. I feel like adding another - seed being blown around by gusts of wind!

Please pray for Kima International School of Theology. The Principal who served for 7 years has left. A one-year interim has taken over. The 'departing' Principal had hoped to remain closely involved with KIST from the USA in fundraising and strategic planning. It now appears that this will not be possible. A long-term replacement is being sought for, but apparently not yet found. Our governing body is to meet in early November. Pray for them to make wise decisions.

We are very grateful to have had a young man volunteer to be clerk for Yala Theological Centre. Now we are praying, and we are waiting to see whether he continues to be serious when he realises that we really do not have money in the programme.

Best wishes,

Jim
